Brain Injuries During Surgery

Brain injuries can occur during surgery if the patient's brain is deprived of oxygen for a long enough period of time. Oxygen deprivation may be caused by an incorrect dosage of anesthesia, a failure to properly monitor the patient's vital signs; or a failure to promptly respond to a patient's deteriorating vital signs. If the oxygen deprivation persists, brain cells may die resulting in permanent brain damage.
